SASSA

Do you know if your application for the social relief of distress grant was successful and when you will be paid? The R350 grant is very important to people who are without an income and are suffering because of the Covid-19 lockdown.

The Social Security Agency has explained that they had to deal with many millions of applications and this put a strain on their systems. They have also made it possible for those who were rejected to apply again.

Now Sassa has put their records online so you can see if your SRD grant applicants were processed and you can check on the status. Applicants will be very pleased that they can now check the progress of their COVID-19 SRD grant applications.

Before you proceed to check your SASSA R350 Grant Status online, you will need your ID Number and Phone number used to submit the application.

Check Your SASSA R350 Grant Status Online

The first step to checking on your application is to click on or copy and paste this URL in your browser: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status

Here, you will be able to check the progress of your grant by entering first your ID number and then your cellphone number. If these details are correct you will receive an update on the application.

Step 1: Goto https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status (This link will send you directly to the web page for checking the application status) or you can as well visit the official homepage of the SRD R350 https://srd.sassa.gov.za and scroll down to the place asking you to check your status and click on that label.

Step 2: In the text boxes provided, enter the 13-digit ID number and the cell phone number that was used to apply.

Step 3: Click on the submit button and wait for the page to fully load.

Step 4: On the status dashboard, the months that your application is active start with the current month.

Step 5: Click on the month you want to see its status, and a drop-down menu will show you if your application for that particular month is pending, approved, or declined.

Step 6: If you are approved, check if it has a pay date. The pay date is the day your bank account or post office account will be credited. For those using a bank account, expect an SMS alert when the bank finally deposits the grant.

Step 7: For post office payments, applicants will have to wait for their turn using the last three digits of their ID number. (Update: Post Office No Longer Paying SRD R350 Grant Payments)

Step 8: If your status is currently pending, The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) said that a ‘Pending’ application status means that your application has not been approved yet. The agency is still in the process of scanning the applicant’s details so that they can be verified.

Step 9: If your application status shows declined, a reason for the decline will be written against the decline reason section. According to SASSA, an applicant who feels his or her application was unduly declined, can appeal or apply for reconsideration within 30 days from the date of the decline.

There can be various reasons why an application will be declined including :

  • alternative income source Identified,
  • uif registered,
  • nsfas registered,
  • debtor,
  • referred,
  • identity verification failed etc.

Step 10: With the exception of the debtor, all other decline reasons can be appealed.

Sassa has made it clear that beneficiaries may only provide their own banking details as their grants will not be paid into another person’s bank account. This is to ensure that the grant payment goes to the correct person and to avoid fraudulent activities.

Those who select the money transfer option through a major bank, need to ensure that the mobile phone number on which they received the SMS is registered in their name. This is because Sassa cannot pay their grant payment to a mobile phone number which is registered with another person.

How Do I Check My SASSA SRD Status by Contacting SASSA

  • To Check your SASSA SRD Status Call, Simply dial SASSA toll-free number 0800601011.
  • Before you call make sure you have at hand your cellphone number and the ID number that was used to register.
  • When you place the call, wait till a staff responds.
  • Choose the language of your choice, but your language choice sometimes depends on the availability of staff who can communicate with you in your language.
  • It is believed English is one of the languages with the highest response rate.
  • So if you can speak English, select that…
  • Just be polite and grateful in your communication by using words like “please” and “thank you”.

Why Is My Sassa Grant Status Still Pending?

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) said that a ‘Pending’ application status means that their application has not been approved yet. The agency is still in the process of scanning the applicant’s details so that they can be verified.

Sassa recommends that applicants keep an eye on their Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant status for any updates. Once the application undergoes the verification process, the agency validates the applicant’s name, surname and ID number with the Department of Home Affairs.

SASSA R350 Grant Status Meaning

What Your ‘Suspended’ R350 Grant Status Means

If your R350 grant application was declined and you were shown a ‘Suspended’ SRD status, you might want to know further details about this.

If your SRD status was ‘Suspended’, it means that you don’t qualify for the grant because you have been registered as deceased on the Department of Home Affairs database. Thus, SASSA declined your R350 grant application because when they checked to see if you qualify for the grant, they found that you were registered as deceased on the Department of Home Affairs database.

What you should do about your declined R350 grant

If this reason is a mistake then SASSA advises that you contact the Department of Home Affairs to correct your living status.

After you have contacted the Department of Home Affairs, you can submit a R350 grant appeal.

The appeal means that SASSA will have to consider your application again. However, it’s important to remember that applicants only have 30 days after their SRD grant is rejected to submit a R350 grant appeal.

How To Appeal For SRD Grant

  1. Go to the SRD Grant website
  2. Scroll down to ‘Application for reconsideration’
  3. Click on the yellow bar
  4. Fill in the required fields

Once you have submitted your SRD appeal, you will then need to track it.

SASSA will send an SMS regarding the outcome of your appeal.
