Unisa has announced that their registration period for the 2021 academic year is being extended. This follows recommendations by the Higher Education Minister after a delay was seen involving the National Student Financial Aid Scheme.
Unisa is officially extending their 2021 registration period.
Registration was initially supposed to close on 11/12 March but will now be closing on 26 March.
A statement released by the University read as follows:
Due to the announcement by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Unisa has extended the registration period to 26 March 2021.
The University does however make it clear that the minimum payment due date remains 31 March 2021.
This extension follows Blade Nzimande, the Minister of Higher Education, declaring that all Universities will be extending their registrations until next week. Due to issues with NSFAS not having funds available to pay first time entering students and having delays in disbursing funds, this then impacted students registrations as students couldn’t afford to pay their registration fees.
Unisa has also previously said:
the university will ensure that the registration backlog is speedily attended to and that the concerns around financial exclusion are also addressed as best as possible.
Masters and Doctoral registrations close on 31 March.
Unisa will only have one registration period for this year.
The decision to have one semester and one examination period for the 2021 academic year was made at the beginning of this year. Unisa released a statement which read:
Due to the resurgence of the Covid-19 pandemic in South Africa and the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation’s directive that the 2021 academic year will commence in March 2021, Unisa has made the following changes to ensure that all students are able to successfully complete the 2021 academic year … There will be only one registration period for the 2021 academic year … There will be one examination period for the 2021 academic year.
