ILASA Bursary Programme 2022
A bursary or grant is a means of non-repayable monetary support designed to assist students who meet specific financial eligibility criteria. It is usually awarded to enable a student to attend school, university or college when they might not be able to, otherwise. Some awards are aimed at encouraging specific groups or individuals to study.
To qualify for the Bursary, you must possess all the required qualifications and meet all requirements before applying for the ILASA , ILASA Bursary 2022.

BACKGROUND
One of the key strategic objectives of ILASA (Institute for Landscape Architecture in South Africa) is to transform the Landscape Architectural profession with the ultimate aim that it reflects the demographics of the South African population.
The envisaged Bursary Scheme is to target previously disadvantaged individuals and to promote
balance and diversity within the Landscape Architectural profession. This is to further enable and
encourage previously disadvantaged individuals to obtain financial assistance to become registered
professionals.
The ILASA Bursary Scheme is aimed at contributing to build greater capacity, commitment, accountability and responsiveness in the Landscape Architectural field. The personal career advancement of the individual applicant, while an important outcome of the bursary process, is secondary to the over-arching goal of strengthening and encouraging individuals to follow careers in the Landscape Architectural sector.
ILASA is committed to investing considerable resources in its potential bursars and the individual
support it offers its applicants in order to meet the goals, as set out above.
ILASA will/shall therefore advertise for deserving applicants to apply for these bursaries on an annual
basis and will award bursaries, where possible, to those individuals pursuing careers that will benefit
the Landscape Architectural Sector.
How are bursaries awarded?
Bursaries are awarded according to the ILASA bursary policy, academic merit, financial need, the
requirements of the various universities and the availability of funds.
Final selections are made by the ILASA NEC.
Bursary funds are paid out directly to tertiary institutions and other relevant service providers – bursary fund monies are ONLY paid out directly to parents/guardians/students under exceptional circumstances.
This bursary should be seen as a ‘helping hand’ and as such a maximum of R40 000 will be awarded per applicant.
Who is eligible for an ILASA Bursary?
ONLY citizens or naturalized citizens of the Republic of South Africa.
ONLY applicants who intend to study or who are already studying for an approved Landscape Architectural under graduate or post graduate qualification at a tertiary institution in South Africa, which is registered and accredited SACLAP (South African Council of the Landscape Architectural Profession). Current accredited institutions are the University of Pretoria (UP) and University of Cape Town (UCT) for post graduate studies, and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) for undergraduate courses.
What are the minimum requirements for an applicant to be considered?
ONLY Applicants who are currently enrolled for a course in the Landscape Architectural profession with a SACLAP accredited tertiary institution and have an average aggregate of 60% or higher in their previous year of study will be considered

on/before the 8th of November 2022.
- All applications should be made up of original/certified documentation and should be scanned and emailed in order to be considered. (Receipt of application documentation will be acknowledged by email).
- E-mailed copies of original documents should be sent to ilasa@ilasa.co.za and cc’ed to nadia@citygreenla.co.za
- The original paper copies of all documents should be kept on file by the awarded student should reference have to be made to them.
- All application forms that are incomplete will be disqualified.
- All awarded bursaries will be TERMINATED if no original documents are produced on request AFTER THE AWARD IS MADE.
