MinisterĀ Blade Nzimande says that TVET Colleges are set to reopen as per the TVET calendar for 2022, released weeks ago.
In a briefing which took place on 18 January, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Dr Blade Nzimande said that TVET Colleges would be following the approved 2022 Academic Calendar that was recently released.
Students will be expected to return to colleges in a staggered manner on 25 January and the 1st, 8th and 15th February.
Those students returning in February 2022 will receive remote learning support.
N5 and N6 students will return before N4 students and returning trimester students will be prioritised due to the reduced amount of study time available for these students.
While lots of colleges have systems in place to continue with online registrations, others will make use of the staggered approach in order for walk-ins to be better managed. This will ensure that less crowding takes place and all Covid-19 protocols are adhered to.
Nzimande says that it vital that health and safety protocols are in place for return of students, especially during the period of registration.
Minister Nzimande says that all principles surrounding the flexibility of the return of staff and students to colleges will be communicated to colleges within the next 2-3 days.
If a rapid increase of infections or cluster outbreaks are seen on campuses, campuses will close down immediately the Minister assured.
The Department is in the process of collecting information on Covid-19Ā statistics within the sector.
In the mean time all students are encouraged to make use of safety measures such as keeping a safe physical distance in public spaces, washing or sanitizing their hands regularly and wearing a mask that covers their mouth and nose in public areas.
