The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is in the process of placing learners in schools as parents and guardians receive school offers.

Parents who sent in online applications for school placements are now encouraged to check the status of their application to see if the application has been successful or not and to choose a school.

408  672 applications were received from 149 633 people who registered on the website in February and March.

WCED Spokesperson, Bronagh Hammond, said:

The process ended on 31 March 2022, and school governing bodies have since been applying their admission policies to determine placements for next year.

Monday was the beginning of application outcomes being released on the website.

Some might have seen their application status read ‘pending’. This would mean that they will still upload their final outcome. These processes are said to be expected to be finalised this week.

How To Track Application Status

  1. Go to https://admissions.westerncape.gov.za/admissions/login
  2. Fill in the required fields
  3. Click on ‘Application Status’
  4. You will then be shown the information you were looking for

The following outcomes are expected:

  • Successful
  • Unsuccessful
  • Has been placed on the waiting list

Parents will then need to either ‘Withdraw’ or ‘Confirm’ their application.

Once they have confirmed acceptance at a school, parents must print and submit a copy of the application, as well as certified copies of the supporting documents, to the school within seven days of confirming on the system with the school or district office, if they have not already submitted hard copies to the school.

The closing date to confirm the final choices of schools is 25 June 2022. If parents don’t confirm a place, the system will automatically accept the first successful offer from a school on the system for them.

If a parent has been unsuccessful at all the schools they have applied to and are told of a successful placement after 25 June 2022, then they have three days to accept the place offered.

If parents need support with gaining access to their profiles on the website, eg. forgotten passwords, then they can contact any of the officials listed on the website or their nearest district office for help.

If a learner has not been accepted at a school, parents are advised to first contact the school governing body to find out the reasons why the application was unsuccessful, get clarity on the admission process followed, and motivate for the application to be reconsidered.

Parents are advised to stay in touch with the school and request that the learner is placed on a waiting list as some places could still open as parents confirm.

If you have not applied for school placement yet, you should do so immediately as Hammond says, “They must please contact their nearest schools or the district office urgently. We need to ensure that as many learners as possible register this year so that we can plan appropriately to place all learners for 2022”.
