New first year students are now able to register for the 2021 academic year at Sol Plaatje University. They will be running online registration on campus for first time entrants, keep reading to find out how this works.
Sol Plaatje University, also known as SPU, has a mission to become an institution positioned to graduate citizens competent and capable of realising the aspirations of society.

SPU offers courses in four faculties, namely:
- Economic and Management Sciences
- Education
- Humanities
- Natural and Applied Sciences
They have opened their registration for first-time entering students which will run from 1 March until 5 March 2021. This registration will take place online and on campus so that the university is able to ensure the safety of students during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
This registration will take place as follows:
- verification, screening, and sanitising
- online academic registration
- issuance of a student card and laptop
- residence administration.
Students will have to present their firm offer letter for entry to the University’s campus and to the registration venues. Students will receive their firm offer via email or sms and they will have had to accept this offer by email to applications@spu.ac.za if they wish to register at SPU.
If you have checked your application status and it says that you have been waitlisted then you must wait to be informed of the final decision and await a confirmation email or sms before contacting the University.
SPU has stated that only students will be allowed into the registration venues, without their parents. This is so that they remain compliant with the Covid-19 regulations.
SPU will be adhering to and enforcing all health and safety protocols such as social distancing, sanitising, screening and the wearing of masks over the mouth and nose.
A Registration Team will be available in the registration venues to assist students with the registration process.

Once students have completed their registration the university will provide students with details surrounding the Orientation for New First Year students which will take place from 8 to 19 March 2021. These sessions will be both face-to-face and online.
Online teaching and learning will commence on 23 March 2021 for all students at SPU.
